PhD, Centre for Doctoral Training in Robotics and Autonomous Systems, 2020-2024
After graduating from the University of Technology of Compiegne in Mechanical Engineering, Paul worked for 2 and a half years on bio-inspired pulsatile cardiovascular assist devices as an R&D engineer. In particular, he worked on the development of actuators for Left Ventricular Assist Devices. He then started his
PhD in 2020 with the Centre for Doctoral Training in Robotics and Autonomous Systems.
Currently, he works on soft pulsatile actuators for underwater propulsion inspired by the swimming technique of animals such as squids or jellyfishes. Specifically, he studies variable stiffness actuators (VSA) to ensure persistent operation at maximum propulsive efficiency. Apart from exploration or maintenance of underwater robots, Paul is also looking at applications of his research in the medical field.
