It has been a trying time for all of us and we hope that you are coping well. As you may be aware ICRA 2020 is just around the corner and, thankfully, will continue in a virtual format. We can all look forward to seeing the field’s progress this year, the opportunity to reconnect with people around the world, and make new connections in the community.

We are especially thankful here in the Soft Systems Group as we are excited to be able to host our ICRA 2020 workshop ‘Self-Assembling and Reconfigurable Systems’. It will also continue in a virtual format, giving us a unique platform to generate content that will be both useful and, hopefully, lasting in the community for years to come.

Our workshop will open a dialogue between the world of biology and robotics about self-assembly and reconfigurability. These are exciting avenues in the world of robotics, with some of the field’s biggest names making great strides along them. That being said, biological systems are undoubtedly the pinnacle of these processes in our world, and the lessons that can be learnt are endless. We are truly excited about the discussions that will emerge from this event and also the chance to see the thoughts and work of such a stellar line-up is a rare gift.

The workshop will take place on the 30th of June, where the speakers’ presentations will be showcased in two identical sessions. The first session will start at 7 AM (UCT) and the next will start at 3 PM (UCT). During the sessions, we will give participants the chance to post their questions for the speakers, as the next part of the workshop will be a long-form podcast with each speaker where we can present the participants’ questions, and generally discuss the field in depth. All of this content will be made available on the workshop website for time to come. With such a fantastic line-up of speakers, these podcasts and talks will surely be invaluable for researchers in the field. The workshop is also accepting poster and short abstract submissions from participants. The authors of the two best posters will receive an award to the value of €150 each and an award certificate, which are sponsored by Wiley and Advanced Intelligent Systems.

Well, we hope you are as excited about it as we are, and we look forward to welcoming all of you to the workshop on June 30th. You can find out more information on the workshop as well as register to the event in the link below. The registration to the workshop is free of charge!
